Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

GuestSeptember 3, 2017 at 2:33 am #131940Huh. This is not an area that is well known for Muslims. But there were fireworks earlier tonight from our new neighbors (who I have not yet met). I Googled to try and figure out what they may be celebrating, but came up with nothing.
And here I stumble upon the answer anyway. Neat.

AskWoody PlusSeptember 3, 2017 at 5:59 pm #132036So, might one then assume that anyone who who wishes others โMerry Christmasโ is Christian; who wishes others โHappy Hanukkahโ is Jewish; who wishes others โHappy Mahashivaratriโ (also called Shiva Ratri) is Hindu; who wishes others a “Happy Visakah Puja” (โBuddha Dayโ โ the Buddhaโs Birthday Celebration) is Buddhistโฆ ?

AskWoody PlusSeptember 4, 2017 at 2:12 am #132073Perhaps Norman Rockwell summed it up best in his portrait depicting Freedom of Worship, one of the Four Freedoms of 1943, with the inscription at the top reading, “EACH ACCORDING TO THE DICTATES OF HIS OWN CONSCIENCE” (see https://www.theguardian.com/artanddesign/jonathanjonesblog/2017/feb/07/norman-rockwell-four-freedoms-trump-roosevelt#img-2 ).

AskWoody PlusSeptember 3, 2017 at 10:46 am #131980Isn’t there a separate forum for religious statements? If not, there ought to be. Or not, depending on whether it’s considered relevant to this site. I don’t have a particular view one way or the other, but I admit that the topic surprised me considerably.

AskWoody MVPSeptember 3, 2017 at 5:26 pm #132031There are always unspoken rules.
Rule #1: The owner owns, it’s his house, his rules.
You can always start a new Topic in the Rants forum if you think Woody shouldn’t be allowed to make his own call on where his topics should be placed in his own forum.

GuestSeptember 3, 2017 at 10:06 pm #132054Totally agree.
I am atheist but if someone wishes me “happiness” then for sure I will happily embrace that and thankfully accept those good wishes.
Far far better than the other side of the coin.
As per the song, I keep saying “Don’t worry, be happy”ย as I try and struggle with the fiasco of Win10.

I lived in Saudi Arabia from 1979 to 1985. I lived in Phuket, Thailand, which has a large Muslim population, from 2000 to 2014. I routinely send (and occasionally post) season’s greetings for Christians, Jews, Buddhists and Hindus, as well as Muslims. And Americans. And even, heaven forfend, Brits, Germans, Ozzies and Kiwis. Although I’ll admit I’ve never sent out greetings for Apple’s special days or Penguins, for that matter.
If you find season’s greetings offensive then, by all means, go elsewhere!
