This is the largest and farthest ranging religious peregrination in the world and, perhaps, this time also the biggest ever before in history: The more people in the world, the more believers, the easier it is for them to travel, the more pilgrims that attend.

It must be fantastic for the believers to be there, actually circling the Kaaba, after having to cope with travel, expenses, as well as heat and crowding, for the one moment in their lives they have been hoping for their entire lives. Can’t think of anything comparable.

One can read a fairly detailed article about this here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hajj

      Eid mubarak!

[To do it in August takes some dedication; the temperature is hitting 42C (108F) during the day and not dropping much below 30C (86F) at night.]

Since I’ve been following this great forum (a few months) I’ve found, quite interestingly, that its pages have given a lot of space to muslim celebrations: a few weeks ago it was time for the ramadan, now its time for the hajj.

On the other hand, I’ve found, quite interestingly, that some christian celebartions have not been mentioned at all, like, for example, that of the assumption of the holy virgin on august 15th, which has been celebtated by hundreds of millions of people around the world.

My question: on the religious side, is this forum biased towards the muslim religion, or whatever other religion?  If yes, I would definetely unsubscribe and stop reading its pages; if not, I think that the everybody-or-nobody rule should apply equally.

Any reasoned reply from the forum moderators / owners?

In answer to your question, this site is predominantly a ‘Tech website’ and religious blog posts are occasionally created by the site/ blog host Woody, to celebrate a religious event. Woody tries to encompass all religions where and when required on given dates. There is no religious bias and other faiths are catered for accordingly.
I hope this satisfies your curiosity 🙂

I think that the everybody-or-nobody rule should apply equally.

If I recall correctly, some major Jewish celebrations have been mentioned here, too. I am guessing that Christian ones are so very numerous, the ones observed in the USA, at least, (and not shared by all denominations, for example some that celebrate the Eucharist, or certain Saints and other Blessed Spirits), so just a few, such as Christmas, maybe Easter ones can be mentioned without cluttering, or even possibly causing a religious confrontation — that a certain MVP will then have to apply her clipping scissors to, as arguing about religion (as opposed to mentioning it) is strictly against “Lounge Rules” — in this, as Microfix has written in his reply, “tech Website.”

Not to mention the celebrations of Zoroastrians, Buddhists, Hindus, Taoists… some with millions of followers worldwide,

Your curiosity is reasonable, HanJohnJo, though I am disappointed by your conclusion. I would not require you to read anything you do want. But I do want to point out that you recognize the concept of ‘owner’.

I feel that I am a guest on Woody’s privately owned property. I would not dictate the furnishings and decorations he chooses for his property. Nor would I be comfortable to speak against his free expression of personal faith or expressions in support of other faiths.

The main difficulty with an all or nothing approach is that it is impossible to satisfy all, and so we would be left with nothing. What is presented as ‘fair’ is really a kind of rampant censorship masquerading as equality. I enjoy recognizing the variety of people, their ways, and their beliefs. And I will not keep count or require an accounting of ‘fairness’ because I do not see that as freedom.

While I agree with Microfix’s point on the approximate balance seen here on AskWoody, I did also want to support the owner’s freedom of expression on his own property. Just as I would support your freedom, HanJohnJo, on your own blog.
