EdgeDeflector gets Windows 10 to respect your default browser setting

Microsoft wants Windows 10 users to use their new Microsoft Edge web browser. Users don’t even need to choose it as their default browser. Seemingly normal-looking web links all over Windows 10 and the Cortana digital assistant force-open in Microsoft Edge rather than in your system defined default web browser. Comtraya!

EdgeDeflector is my tiny new helper program that says “that isn’t cool!” to Windows, and lets you use your default web browser anyway…

This will even open the new ‘News and Interest’ with your default browser and not with Edge.

Download the latest EdgeDeflector_install.exe from the Releases page on GitHub,
Install it by choosing Yes at the User Account Control prompt,
Go to All settings > Apps > Default apps,
Scroll to the bottom and click Choose default apps by protocol,
Locate MICROSOFT-EDGE in the list and click on the program icon to the right of it,
Select EdgeDeflector from the list. Confirm the change if asked to.

The new Edge has yet to open anything on my PC.  Firefox remains my default browser, and all html links open only in Firefox.

Always create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates; you may need to start over!
We all have our own reasons for doing the things that we do with our systems; we don't need anyone's approval, and we don't all have to do the same things.
We were all once "Average Users".

can anyone comment on this ? I would like to block edge for sure but BD didn’t like it’s previous version.

Upon re-reading the title, I see I have been operating under incorrect idea- I thought(bad) this was a utility to block edge but I see it simply prevents edge from allowing you to choose your default browser.

As BBearren said, it hasn’t changed my choice either.

Maybe I should read these threads at the beginning of the day instead of late night!

I see it simply prevents edge from allowing you to choose your default browser.

This app forces Windows 10 to use your default browser where Windows 10 disregards your chosen browser and opens Edge (like links in mail…)

I am not tech savvy so could someone please explain in layman’s terms how I get rid of EdgeDeflector and just use Chrome?! Thank you.

EdgeDeflecter  (is NOT Edge browser) is a third-party program that makes Edge respect your default browser Chrome.
