• Edge update changed home page-not really

So, Edge updated itself and it gave me the added benefit of an unwanted bootup to the Edge site and not my home page which in the settings still shows my home page as ighome that I’ve used for years. I have not been able to locate how not to boot to their news site that kindly has installed my home page as an icon for me to click on and open.

I do not/can not find how to fix this. I really like the browser but not this behavior. This must be a brand new update because it got sprung on me this morning. Thanks to whoever can help. I checked in “appearance” and the “Startup” sections for possibilities to fix, but not successful. Thanks.

I just started having the same problem with the most recent Edge Chromium update, which I manually triggered an update.  I notice many others on other forums are stating the same issue.  All of a sudden the Startup setup is not being respected.  The Home setup still gets respected.  At Startup one gets a Microsoft page instead.  I tried resetting things.  No fix.  I repaired Edge.  No fix.  I deleted and reset the specific URL in my Startup.  No fix.  Some forums say that setting the default search engine to Bing will fix things.  This was NOT my case.  I was already set to Bing.  I changed to Google and back to Bing.  No fix.  I created a new “Test” Profile and input a specific URL for a Startup Page.  It was also not respected.  I’ve run out of ideas.  I notice on a second PC, after the Edge update, that things worked as expected with the Startup pages.  However, this morning, it has now reverted to NOT respecting the specified Startup pages and I know I did not change anything.  Some kind of bug or Microsoft wanting to take control??

On both my Windows 7 machine and my Windows 10 machine the Edge startup pages are set to https://duckduckgo.com. However, this morning I noticed that Edge on both machine opens to a tab with the word “Microsoft”, a search bar beneath it, and nothing in the address bar. Edge on both machines have the May 27th update – 91.0.864.37. I suspect that this latest update has a bug.

What is wrong with Microsoft? I’ve been seeing good things about Edge lately, in newsletters and websites, even “best browser” and “should you replace Chrome”. They are finally regaining a reputation after Internet Explorer’s problems, and then they pull this garbage?

The latest Win10 forced update has caused Edge not to launch to the listed Home Page no matter what you change it to – as other folks here have noted.

      I’m using: Version 91.0.864.37 (Official build) (64-bit)

      What a PITA !

It appears that Microsoft has some how fixed this issue on my PC. I didn’t do an update or change any settings since yesterday so it would have had to of been an unauthorized auto update.

Remember Edge updates independently, as well as they have that “known issue rollback” process that can fix things without installing updates.

Thanks for the info. Susan. What a sad state of affairs for MS customers, IMNHO.

So @SB , are you still recommending to allow Edge to check for updates every hour and install them silently or has that changed? And if changed. what is the best way to disable automatic updates and have a manual check and choose?

Yep.. it’s fixed and I too have done nothing that would fix it. I was reading this thread on my default browser (Basilisk) and started Edge which had not started today. It went right to the tab I had open when I closed it last night. That’s the correct behavior upon next start if you have a bunch of tabs open and close the browser.

I don’t allow Edge (or anything Microsoft) to update when it decides it wants to. I remember the “good ole days” when Microsoft announced an update was available and asked if we wanted to download it. Now that courtesy is gone, I have Microsoft and other software that also behaves rudely tied down so it can’t update unless I allow it.

If something can be fixed without having you reboot your computer, why is that the “good old days”.  We have been wanting our systems to be more like Linux where our systems don’t reboot to install updates.  We’re slowly inching our way to that especially with applications like browsers that are no longer so embedded in the operating system.  This showcases that Edge – unlike Internet Explorer – is independent of the operating system.  What is being rude is the bug in the first place.
