I found this over at PC911, posted by Bicycle (Bill watson)

Howdy. I have seen posts here from individuals asking how these elaborate sigs are created.I stumbled upon a site where with only a few clicks one will be created for you for free. Neat site.To check it out.

      Great find. Dave. bravo

Thanks, Dave (The profile screen sez max 5K, so I hope this is acceptable)

Looks safe to me Al… I see it as 3097 bytes grin.

Actually it’s a bit too tall. The rule is:
Signature (300 chars Max. 3 lines at most. Graphics no taller than 38).

OK another redhead question. I know you save our graphics here in the lounge for us or I never would have the neat sig and user pic I do. But If I want to use a sig or pic somewhere else it tells me it must be saved to the net first. Question is Where do I save to the net? Do I have to buy a domain to do that? My ISP says I have a few mg of Personal Memory. Is that probably just for the email or can I possibly save there? I have an email to them asking but no answer yet the lounge is faster.

A redhead question? I like redheads, so let me answer first!

You would need a publicly accessible web location – but do you have to buy a domain? Probably not. Although the numbers are shrinking these days there are free hosts to be found, and many ISPs will give you around 5MB space for a personal website.

When you say you have a few mg of “Personal Memory” I’m not sure what you are referring to, but it is possibly for email retention. Check with the ISP first – asdk them if you have web space or some such. Once you find out where your homepage is, upload the image(s) there and reference them from wherever you want.

A final thought – every time that graphic is referenced somewhere on the net, you’re using a little bandwidth. Use enough of that, and you get a bill in your mailbox (and not the e-mailbox either). It would take a ton of clicks to chew up something noticeable with the signatures that we use here in the Lounge – so try not to use streaming video in your signature! laugh

              Tx WyllyWylly.

I will have to contemplate that for a while. Also see what my ISP has to say, he was real helpful before he got my money.

Some dumb blondes didn’t get the fun of being a blonde. Hence the dumb redhead questions.

Rats, I thought this thread was about “Easy SINS” and I thought, gotta read this one!

But seriously, even though I’m a greyhead, I’m in a similar boat to BookBox, in that the bride and I have 50 MB of web space with our ISP, of which we are using 0.3MB! I’d like to get better use of this space as far as a place to leave pix of the kids & grandkid, etc, but have no what I can do, and no clue how to set it up. Our ISP Help files are kind of technical and don’t tell me the basics like “How to post files that people can access from the web”. I don’t want to set up a home page, but I would like to set up a File directory for downloading.

Can you point me to a ‘net good primer for Dummies with no understanding of FTP, Shell Accounts, etc., preferably here on the Lounge. Or if you have time, explain some ‘o this to us?

John, looks to me like you DO need a “home page” as you called it. One way or ‘tuther you’re gonna be forced to learn a little about HTML. Even though that’s a very deep bucket, I learned most of what (little) I do know by right-clicking on web pages and looking at the source code for a page. While you’re there, you can copy-paste up your own pages using someone else’s code as a learning tool.

I admit that one has to be careful about copyright violations, but if you’re looking for sample HTML, there’s not too much liklihood you’d be stepping on anyone’s t-copyright toes. Anyone else agree with me?

Creating (typing) HTML just requires a fairly decent editor and we all know you COULD use something you already have, like Notepad or whatever.

For starters, my web site is purely personal and mostly pictures, so why don’t you go do a little right-clicking and see what you think?

Come on back to this thread and all of us can suggest HTML editors, FTP software or whatever.

The bride has Front Page, it’s more that I wanted something -extremely- simple as I feel I don’t have the time I would need to commit to learning to develop a home page. (It’s “oh, dear, not another thing I gotta learn”.) But maybe later this year between hiking and skiing season I’ll jump in with my big boots. And I’ll definitely have a look at your page, get into the Front Page Forum and take all the advice I can get. Thanks!

              Hey, Al !

I hope you don’t mind I checked out your site and did a little right-clicking. I borrowed your date & time script and headed over to maddog to see what was available.

Most all the (little) HTML I know has come from playing with source code and seeing what happened to learn what was going on and how it worked. I usually use HTML to send very friendly and funny greetings and the like embedded with wavs, midis, and of course, LOTS of gifs.

I have created a couple of pages with internal & external links and the like. The last one I published was nearly a year ago but it sucks compared to what I know and can do now. Did you use Communicator? I use a combination of notepad doing it longhand and MS editor (which is not very good) but haven’t really done enough to know anything much about various editors available.

              Tchuss!

            • #598175

Try TextPad and feel free to borrow anything you find in the ‘source’ here.

            • #598191

Once you get away from so-called “text editors,” like Notepad, Word and the like and start trying to find a dedicated HTML editor, the choices skyrocket. And, everybody has faves and ones they hate! I’ve heard lots of people talk about Front Page but I’ve never tried it. I used to work at our educational television station and their editor of choice was (is) Homesite. I just had too much trouble with it crashing or chewing up system resources that I went looking. Settled on HotDog Pro (even though I’m NOT a pro!) and like it OK.

Searching the ‘Net for good javascripts is fun and I have several more on the site in addition to the Russo date/time one. By the way, get your copy of that from HIS site, rather than mine, ’cause I modified it slightly, with his permission.

I have a nice (for me) script I use to do the pictures of our grandson and I can’t remember where I found it. Putting together a picture album is a very popular “sport!” Like editors, I tried several programs, like JASC’s Media Center and so on, but I liked having the ability to do it myself, so…..

Have fun. See ya back here…..

I love the resized version. Thanks Al. kiss

Ya know, Eileen, this is not the proper thread for “sucking up,” but I’m gonna do it anyway! I really appreciate your courteous guidance AND reply!

The Lounge is the ONE place on the ‘Net where I don’t see any “flaming” going on and all post’ers are treated with courtesy and respect, by fellow loungers, the Mods and you “management” folks! Even when one (like me) makes a mistake and needs guidance and correction, it’s done with dignity and I for one, feel safe in coming here for help.

          Thanks to ALL!
