    Hello!

I am having a similar problem with Paragon’s backup software but I am also having a problem with EasUS as well.  I am using the free personal edition and I wanted to do a full backup of my main hard disk containing the C and F drives.  When I select files or Disk 0, the program assumes that my external USB disk (Drive E) is part of the backup and will not let me use it as the backup target.  I was able to select my USB Drive E with Paragon but that software refuses to recognize my External drive as a source when i try to restore my data.

Any Ideas why EasUS is confused?

    Thanks!

Backup software sees the disks as individual items, so you may have selected “image this machine” instead of “image this disk” and selecting the internal disk as the source.

I use Acronis and select ‘Backup this PC’ (drives C and D) and the backup image is saved on my external SSD (drive G). Daily incremental backups are done automatically on drive G.

Here is what I am seeing when I setup my backup.

When I select Disk, it includes my Seagate portable disk, so I uncheck it and click OK.  But the next screen does not show me the Seagate disk (E in this case).

When I select Files, it lists where the files are located.  I unselect the Seagate disk (D in this case) and click OK.  But, again, the system does not recognize my Seagate as a valid storage location…:-(

If your are using EaseUS ToDo What is your setting for default backup path ( in settings) ?

That seems to be the problem.  The system was pointing to the system Reserved (F) drive and when I went in the the Settings menu and changed it to the Seagate (E) drive then the backup program could find the drive I wanted to use.  It is backing up now. I will see if that fixes the problem when I try to restore my files.

          Thanks!

      That looks fine.
Now you have to click on “select the destination where you want to save the backup”. This will allow you to select your external disk (currently E).

The backup screen suggests that when you last used the external disk it showed as F drive. It is not unusual for Windows to change drive letters of external disks, but it is annoying.

      cheers, Paul

p.s. I’m sure RG will pop in with a method to retain the drive letter for your external disk.

      Paul,

Right you are! USBDLM (USB Drive Letter Management) it’s free and works great. You can search here for examples of it’s use.
