My Dell PC won’t play my DVD’s. Since I didn’t have this problem before, I can only assume I accidentally uninstalled something while removing some programs a while back ( http://windowssecrets.com/forums/showthread//139759-Expletive-deletion-accidentally-deleted-Word). I don’t have a clue what I removed but I would really like watching movies on my computer again. Any ideas anyone?

What app were you using to watch movies? I generlly use Windows Media Center. Sometimes use the DVD S/W that came with my PC. AGoogle searchshows a few links for Windows Media Center.

The app is Dell Media Experience. I also have Windows Media Player but I never use it. As mentioned earlier DME worked before but now, when I put in the DVD, it says it can’t read the darn thing.

Probably the most problem free media player available these days (at least that has been my experience) is VLC.

A mistake on my part. When I didn’t initially see my earlier post, I thought I made a mistake so I made another one in a different section. 😳

Try a repair install of Win 7. If you already have SP1 installed, download the Win 7 with SP1 isofrom Digital River. This file can also beburned to USB flash driveand run from there. Since your DVD player will not work, try the flash drive.

Have you thought about the possibility that your DVD drive may be bad. These are getting pretty inexpensive. If the above does not work, check into this.

A little bit more of an explanation may help here.

What type of DVDs will it not play?

Is it movie type DVDs? If so you may need to install/reinstall DVD playback software/codecs.

Is it software DVDs? If so you may need to install chipset drivers.

The more info you give, the more help can be given!

Give us a list of what you deleted, someone will tell you what to “undelete”.

CD/DVD drives die….. that’s just one hard, cold, fact.
One day they work just fine and the next time you boot up your PC, they don’t.

There are some software fixes for this problem, but the ultimate fix is a new DVD drive.
They are so cheap anymore, that it’s not the big deal it once was.

I agree that more detailed information about the problem would help…….

They were movie DVD’s. They played just fine before I got a new printer. I removed some old progs so they wouldn’t interfere with the installation. I think one of them must have been something that let me play the DVD’s.

I can’t remember exactly what I deleted. It was a couple of months ago. :senile:

I’m just wondering if anyone has suggestions regarding my DVD/PC problem?
