Duplicate Messages/Pop Up Reminder (Outlook 2000)

I frequently receive duplicate emails and my pop up reminder reminds me of things, sometimes days later or not at all.

Our help desk has not been able to fix this. Is there any information that you can pass along that with correct these issues?

I’ll ask the easy question about the reminders – is your CPU calendar set for the correct date and time zone? I had that issue on an older machine where the date/time was way off.

As for the duplicate emails, you might want to check your ISP/network administrator to see if there is a large file in there somewhere which is messing with the settings. I’ve also had that issue – an email with a large attachment wouldn’t go through, so it kept sending the smaller emails trying to clear itself out to send the bigger one. (I’m obviously not a technician so my explanations may make no ‘techincal’ sense.)

We’ve checked the date/time several times and we’re okay there.

I send out a lot of large reports. If by chance they messed with the settings, would they eventually be freed up when the file went through?

For the reminder problem, some remedial cleanup won’t hurt. Close Outlook and all Outlook windows (and processes, if you run PDA software or other Outlook hook software), and then in the Windows OS Start | Run box enter:

outlook.exe /cleanfreebusy /cleanreminders

That wouldn’t run. It couldn’t find cleanfreebusy, whatever that is.

Please check my steps because I’m a rookie.

outlook.exe/cleanfreebusy/cleanreminders

There should be a space before both slashes, see John’s post.
If it doesn’t work, try using one at a time:

Outlook.exe /CleanFreeBusy

and

Outlook.exe /CleanReminders

I did one at a time and Outlook opened in between both. Hopefully that did something.
