Duplicate Boot Directory

I decided to rebuild my C drive last week. I have now completed the task, and its working fine apart from one major issue.

Somehow, I have managed to get an extra “BOOT” folder (with its contents) on my E Drive (E is the location of my “My Pictures” folder. As far as I can see, it is an actual copy and not a virtual one. Again, as far as I can see there are no other duplicates.

I am unable to delete it. I’ve tried safe mode, I’ve tried taking ownership, I’ve tried using DOS to change attributes, etc, none of these attempts have worked.

Any suggestions as to how I can delete it, together with any opinions as to whether I might damage my New Windows installation in doing so.

Sorry for not including this info.

It is marked as read-only & hidden, but I cannot change the attributes. I’m the only named user and therefore administrator as well!

Are you sure that it did NOT become the BOOT disk when you did this rebuild?

You can check the status of the drives and partitions in Windows Management > Disk Management. Active, Boot and System are the important attributes here, which drives/partitions are given these titles?

In answer to your question, NO, I’m not sure it didn’t become THE BOOT disk! But I don’t think it did!

However, as I’ve no idea how this happened, so I can’t say for certain that some part of Windows is not looking to E:Boot.

I did a Registry search for E:Boot and got no results tho. I also ran Autoruns, and it has no entries pointing at E:Boot. (Just as an aside, there were no entries in registry or Autoruns for C:Boot either so I’m not sure if it is an “active” directory, or a store for files used in the install.)

I’ve attached a copy of disk management set-up which seems to suggest its OK, together with an image of the location that i’m stuck with.

You are correct. Drive C is your System disk AND your Boot disk. So that is one thing you don’t have to worry about.

Bit more Googling brought me a file called Unlocker

This did the trick with the individual files, and then I could remove the directory.
