This is my first Vista machine and I am having issues with printing photos.

When I print a photo, the whole image is dull. That’s the best way to describe it. The colours are washed out, there is no vibrancy to them. Because it is my first Vista machine I thought I would seek some advice.

I am using a Canon MP470 printer that prints good colour when I print a document. To view and print the photos, I am using Vista’s inbuilt photo software. I have checked all the settings for the printer but cannot see what I need to change, and I cannot see any settings in the Vista software that may be influencing the poor quality outcomes.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Do you have the most current canon drivers – Canon PIXMA MP470 Photo All In One Printer?

You might try the Canon software you can download from the same page.

        Thanks Joe,

I thought that I did have the latest drivers, but I will download this one and test it out.

Thanks for that clue. I will not see this machine until later today, but I will post back my results.

Good luck. NOTE: there is CANON software for photo printing a little further down past the drivers on that page after you select your OS.

            Progress Report:

The latest Canon drivers made no difference to the print output when printing photos.

I installed Irfanview to see if another imaging software would make any difference – it did not. When you select print, the wizard that comes up is the Windows printing wizard. So same result.

Undaunted, i installed XnView (thanks Alan) and tried with that. Photos print beautifully.

So my friends can print photos (despite a cost benefit analysis of getting them done commercially vs doing it yourself) with XnView but not with anything else. All other documents print OK and scanned images and documents have the correct colour.

Well, glad you’ve got something figured out. Printing photos at home has always been a tricky proposition of using the correct paper, printer & software iwth you usually having to tweak the software to get the pictures the way you want. IMO, printing photos at home is not worth the effort & expense unless you really, really need a picture right away. Getting a professional print now is not expensive. Any online service does a really good job.
