• Dual booting and Outlook

I have a dual boot machine with Win98 and Win2k using Office 2k SR 1 installed on both OS’s to one directory. My problem is that the Win2k install did not keep the path for the .pst file and shows it on another partition altogether.
How can I get both to point to the same location for my .pst file so when I am online with either OS I am only dealing with one pst file? I found out how to do this in a network setting but this is a stand alone and the options are different.

While in the OS that is not linked to the correct PST file, delete the incorrect one. Start Outlook, when ask to create a new file select no. I think it will now ask what file to use, locate the correct file.

I had to do this a long time ago, and I think MaryJ had provided me with this information. It should be posted early posting of this board.

I wonder if you could let us know how this installation is working for you a few weeks down the road. Having been bitten and gnawed on by MS so many times through the years, I’m curious about how a complex environment like this works out. Thanks!

I have been dual booting since Windows 2000 came out and using a shared pst file for both Windows 98 FE and 2K. I have NOT had any problems with using Outlook 2000.

Well Dave, thanks to your help and others I have been able to get my Outlook.pst file working with both OS’s great, I did have to go one step further and change Outlook to corporate mode in order to specify the file location as otherwise I ended up with a duplicate, mirror like, personal folder underneath the original for some odd, Bill Gates only knows reason.

As far as the Dual booting goes otherwise, I couldn’t be happier as I have now the best of both worlds. Some of my USB equipment is not supported under 2000 so if I would have upgraded instead I would have lost these.

You stated “USB equipment is not supported under 2000 “, what item(s) are NOT supported?
I have a USB scanner and a USB cd burner both working under 2000. Check with the venders for updated drivers.
