      Welcome aboard, all of you!!!!

Congratulations, everyone. You deserve the promotion… & pay, too, but money’s tight.

Bought a refurbished Windows 10 64-bit, currently updated to 22H2. Have broke the AC adapter cord going to the 8.1 machine, but before that, coaxed it into charging. Need to buy new adapter if wish to continue using it.

We are all hapless and helpless at times, given the plethora of happy horse c*** which we all have been having to deal with on many occasions, given the state that all of us have unwittingly become Microsoft’s unpaid beta testers for all new Windows Updates. Nadella’s strategy about Windows Updates has collectively cost Windows users, IT departments and corporations untold hours of frustration and lost time and revenue. It is what it is, and this has tarnished Microsoft’s reputation.

Thus your announcement of these six new MVPs is most welcome news, and I offer my congratulations to them! I pray that they will endeavor to do their best to assist both forum members and anonymous posters. Yet we must also understand that they do so from their own hearts, and that their time is, well, whatever they have and are willing to spend. Many forums are this way.

What delights me about this forum is the simple fact that we have so many good people on this forum who do post many thoughtful and informative posts, and the additional simple fact that this forum is primarily dedicated to Windows Update issues in conjunction with also avoiding Microsoft’s still secretive telemetry which has been back-ported into Window 8x and Windows 7, simply because Microsoft’s only goal is to beat Google at becoming the prevalent advertising platform.

Think about my last sentence, above. It is what it is. This is Microsoft’s goal. The insidious difference is that, when one uses Google’s services, the user chooses to use Google’s services. With Microsoft, this freedom of choice was removed by Microsoft since Microsoft under Nadella chose to bake telemetry, via Windows Updates into each user’s Windows 8x and 7 operating systems, and in doing so, Microsoft at the same time never presented EULAs about specific updates which incorporated deep telemetry, such as when installing Windows Update KB2952664.

Not too long ago, I ranted about the claimed functionality of KB2952664 on this forum — for upgrading to Windows 10. I now note that the claimed functionality for KB2952664 has recently been changed by Microsoft. Coincidence? I think not since I think that Microsoft is reading everything which is posted on Woody’s forum.

Again, it is what it is.

Ah, this is turning into a rant. My apologies.

      @ MVP Class of 2018

Welcome to your elevated roll here on AskWoody, and congratulations to each of you.

Over the last year, I have enjoyed your informative contributions to various topics. (Notice, Paul T, I didn’t say *wise guidance* — hope that takes some of the pressure off, at least for now 🙂 !

Let’s have a great second year here on the AskWoody Lounge forum.

Welcome and thanks for the help you provide. I had a different username on WS’s so I recognize a few names on that list of new MVP’s. My question is, when are Satrow and Rick going to get elevated and where is JoeP ( Joe is probably enjoying the vacation, LOL ).

OOps didn’t realize that Satrow was already an MVP. Guess I should be more observant.

I tried, but wasn’t able to get in touch with Rick Corbett.

I don’t know JoeP. What’s he been up to?

I’m not certain, but Rick Corbet may still be putting a lot of his time into trying to get the Windows Secrets Forum back up.  Those of the new MVP’s who have come from the WS site may be doing double duty if WS gets going again.  But that’s iffy right now.

      Good news everyone!

Particularly to all new and old(ish) MVPs!

Because I think this is how it will work:

More MVPs = more work done, in aggregate, by MVPs = more questions answered, sooner!

      While we’ll also have this:

Less work/MVP = more individual MVP free time!

(Meaning “more free time to pursue other personal interests”, not “less paid time.” As the latter is impossible.)

Also, once Windows 7 reaches EOL in January 2020, and 99.76% of Woody’s regulars stop coming, you all can look forward to further ungainful employment in “askwoodyaboutmacsandlinux.com”.

      Just a passing thought.

        Thanks, Elly.

        On second thoughts,  a better post-Jan 2020 Woody’s address could be: “askwoodyaboutmacsandlinuxetc.com”.

Where etc = FreeBSD, Qubes (a super-secure Linux-like system mentioned earlier by Elly)… and… and… and Windows 10, in its many iterations, of course.

Be that as it may, thanks to all the MVPs and to many others that have been patient and kind in offering advice and help to this odd individual for many months already.
