I’ve been trying to activate the drop shadow feature for use with photos, placing the bottom on the draw toolbar as FP help says to do, but it is always greyed out. Is this because I am using Win98 SE and Word 2000? Or, is there another reason?

Usually when something is greyed out… it’s to do with Compatibility
Tools | Page Options | Compatibility Tab | set all boxes to custom and tick everything click ok and say yes when it asks to refresh your web

However FP Help says about shadows that bitmaps and metafiles are supposed to work with this not jpegs or gifs… With FrontPage you are always better off using your graphic editor to manipulate graphics rather than FrontPage if you can… if you don’t have an editor you could always dl a free one such as gimp.org
Where you can put a shadow on before inserting the graphic into FrontPage…. You can of course use styles with graphics and achive a border.. you could make a drop shadow picture and use it in this manner…. Or use tables as outlined in http://www.scriptfx.com/forum/shadow_image.htm … the last solution is best I think if you can’t to it in a graphics editor….
