I have inherited a protected workbook which contains a drop down list in a particular column. I cannot find where this list has been created and I cannot edit the items in the list. Three questions:
    1. Where does the list live
    2. How do I edit it
    3. How can I create a new list

To find out how the drop-down control is set up,
      – right-click on it and
      – select “Format Control”.

There you should be able to tell where the list “lives” (in the “Input Range” field on the Control tab), and you can control it from there.

With that cell selected, try clicking Data > Validation…

If the ‘Allow’ dropdown is set to list, check the ‘Source’ box for the location of your list entries.

OR, if the entire column of cells offers the same dropdown list with the same values, click the column heading and then click Data > Validation… as above

Could also be a datafilter (data – filter – autofilter) then it just the unique members of your column

Could be a combo box from control toolbox (right-click a toolbar) check control toolbox. select the “design mode” button (upper left), right-click on the combobox and select properties, look in “ListFIllRange” property

or even filled via a macro, check for assigned macro (if from FORMS) or in CODE for control toolbox object
