I upgraded to Version 20H2 in May, and today was the first day I checked for updates.

I was confronted with almost 20 driver updates from HP, Intel, Realtec, Sound Research and Elan.  I was able to hide them using wsushowide.  Drivers were:

HP Keyboard Standard 101/102,  Intel System 2013.14.0.1529

Realtek Semi Net 2024.0.10.214,  Realtek Bluetooth 18.1027.30000

HP HP Class 2.1.14.1,  Intel SCSI Adapter 17.9.0. 1007

Intel System 10.1.12.3,  Intel Corp System 20.100.2010.1

Intel System 8.7.10201.13396,  Sound Research software component 2.0.9.49

Realtek Software Component 1.0.0.281, Realtek Semiconductor Corp Extension 6.0.9003.1

Realtek Semiconductor Media 6.0.9003.1, Realtek Software Component 11.0.6000.80.3

ELAn Mouse 22.2.1.2, Elan HID Device HID Class 22.2.1.2, ELAN HID Class 22.2.1.2

    Sound Research Extension 15.97.66. 6898

Should I go back and install any or all of these?

    Thank you.

If everything is working correctly I would not install the driver updates.

If you want to install them, make an image backup, restart Windows and then install.

      cheers, Paul

I’d like some discussion of this question also.

My computer mentors told me way back that re drivers, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.  IOW if you have a specific problem and are sure that an updated driver will address it, go ahead and install the new driver. Otherwise, do nothing.

You may try to install an unneeded driver, and it will just not install, and reappear on the list of updated drivers, no harm done. Or, the new driver will install and cause the service to stop working, and you’ll have to uninstall the new driver, and hope that you can find the old driver on a website somewhere, and reinstall it.

I have stopped installing any and all “optional” updates. I have a list of driver updates similar to yours on 3 Windows 10 machines, and the lists are on the “optional” page, so I leave them be.

Encountered the same situation when I upgraded to 20H2 and, after bothering to check the version numbers of the new driver updates against the ones already installed on my PC, found they were the same drivers (exactly the same version number and date issued.)

If a driver update is the exact same version/date as the one already installed, then it’s not really an update is it!

So why do they show up in Windows update, even as optional updates, when you upgrade Windows to a new version? (i.e. 1909 -> 20H2) Does Windows somehow “forget” which drivers are installed when it’s upgraded?!?!

      Anyway…

I my case, since they were the exact same drivers, I went ahead and let Windows Update reinstalled them and then “reset” my update preferences to Do not include drivers with Windows Updates.
