Hi, hopefully someone can help me with this. I have given up trying to post on Dell Community Support Forums as I cannot get it to let me post a question (every time I get to the Support Forums it seems to have lost my login).
I came to my PC this morning and the screen resolution had been reset to 1024 x 768. Yesterday morning it was as it should be (1920 x 1200). The system had not been rebooted and no MS updates had been installed. When I looked into it I noticed that the monitor driver is set to “Generic Non-PnP Monitor”. Windows tells me I have the latest version of this driver. When I check the Events tab in its properties it shows that it was configured and started at 11:55 yesterday. No-one was using the computer at this time and these are the only events for it i.e. nothing before yesterday. I tried setting the resolution to what the monitor can support (1920 x 1200) but that option is not available, the nearest one is 1600 x 1200 which is not appropriate.
I did a reboot and that didn’t fix the problem.
I did a bit of online research and found that Dell have released a Win 10 driver for this monitor so I downloaded from http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/Drivers/DriversDetails?driverid=FTX9M
I then tried to install the driver the Dell Monitor Driver Installer.exe that was included in the downloaded package. When I do this I get the following message:
The following connected monitors have been detected:
Def Plug and Play Monitor – Default_Monitor
Drivers for the following monitors have been found:

Please connect your monitor before running this program.
System details: XPS 8700 32 Gb, Windows 10 Home (Ver 1511 + a few minor updates since – not received the anniversary update yet). I have also run 2 virus checks to make sure nothing untoward is on the system (Bitdefender & Malwarebytes) – nothing found.
Can someone advise on how to get my display back to 1920 x 1200, presumably by advising on how to install the correct driver.
Thanks.
