Hi again….another problem in quick succession. I just tried to download some pictures from my Olympus C-560 digital camera, a task I have performed numerous times in recent days, only to discover now that the sequence it will not advance past the point where I am asked to press the OK tab. Curiosity prompted me to search for the Olympus program on the computer but I discover to my amazement that it is nowhere to be seen. I am presuming it should be in the Program folder! but there are only two progs. beginning with “O”. To my further disdain, I can’t put my hand on the disc that came with the camera so would be more than delighted if someone could (1st) assure me it is possible to acquire the data from the net and (2nd) where it can be downloaded from. yet again regards. Dave.

AskWoody LoungerSeptember 18, 2009 at 6:30 pm #1177897Did you use Olympus Master 2 software? It is available for free, but you have to provide a valid e-mail address: Olympus Master 2.

You should be able to right-click whatever you used to run the program and see the location in the properties screens.
If that doesn’t work, you could always install Revo Uninstaller Freeware if you don’t have it already. On many of the listed entries you can right-click to see the “install location.” On the ones where that is gray, you can open the registry key to see where the executable lives.

Many digital cameras have a menu option to choose between two types of behavior when connected via a USB cable: mass storage (like a USB flash drive or external hard drive) or PTP (Picture Transfer Protocol). If you are using PTP, it’s possible that some component buried in the underbelly of the OS has crashed. If the problem persists after restarting Windows, you might take a look at support articles such as: File transfer from digital camera fails (MSKB 814390).

Thanks to each for your response and various comments, I think the easiest way out for me is to go the way Hans suggested in the meantime I must do a thorough search and see if I can locate the box the camera came in as the disc may just be in it.
Quite unusual for me though as I try to keep all such CD’s in one zipped case. I can’t for the life of me imagine how the installed software came to exit the HD in the first place, certainly a first for me -these things never cease to amaze me. Thanks again. Dave.

AskWoody_MVPSeptember 20, 2009 at 9:51 am #1178060I have had several Olympus cameras and never needed to install any software, even though I did early in the game. Since I have just used Windows Explorer to copy the photos from the camera to the location that I want them in.
