Draw arrows automatically (2003)

Dear All,

I do a lot of financial tables (see attached for sample). Is there a way to automate the drawing of the arrows on the left and right of “Unaudited Pro Forma” relative to the text and merged cells? It has become a pain to change the length of the arrow and position them consistently when the texts are changed. Any help is greatly appreciated.

There may be dedicated drawing applications that do that, but as far as I know, Word doesn’t offer this capability.

How is the text placed there? A simple way to do this is to place the text in a white box (just give the text box a solid fill) and make the two arrows a single line that sits behind the white box.

Alternatively, Visio (and Powerpoint) would allow you to use connectors to the text box so the arrows would automatically resize. On second thoughts, you could do both arrows AND the text by using a single line in Visio.
