Seems like it was just last September when Kara Swisher and Ina Fried at Recode mentioned that Qi Lu was leaving Microsoft as head of the Applications

One more (and more to come) of the talented that made Microsoft what it had become has flown the coop. Inexorably, the good talent is all leaving for greener pastures. This is a common pattern among falling giants.

Gradually the remaining pool will filter out the good and leave the ones that don’t have greener pastures to go to. Leaving a pool of incompetence. We are already seeing this in the products of Windows Updates, and lots more.

Seems like he’s on a meteoric rise in the PRC (think I commented on this last time but cant find in the Archives) No doubt he would have had a hand in the Govt version of Win10 that Greg Kriezer covered in March. Thats sure to be an “Orwellian” version compared to the gripes most of us have about our Win 10 vers. The debate no doubt raging on other pages in here over our paltry 1900+? concerns. Although interestingly enough the main emphasis according to the article was keeping games and “pass-times” and I assume “Social Media” (big distraction for the Chinese were family ties etc has a different dimmension than western society in general) away from the desktop. Shades of Win7Pro hiding games?

I would fully expect that we may be going to see a greater penetration of Baidu in the world at large given that there is a large number of Chinese expats 1st, 2nd 3rd etc Gen. as well that clearly still identify with the mainland PRC (mainland=old HKG term for the PRC) and also a direct selling to the world in general. There is of course the Mobile Apps/OS for the phone, and without broaching on politics, giving the PRC a chance to sell to the world without the proverbial “middle-man”.

Definately “interesting times ahead” Could be @Woody may well find him self back on a book signing tour or certainly back in Shenzhen. Definately worth keeping an eye on as I am sure we are going to hear much more about Dr Qi Lu in the future.  as he has a unique  M$ background and in a very interesting market.

I was deliberately avoiding the old Chinese curse “May you always live in………..”  🙂

Interesting. I hadn’t even considered the possibility that Dr. Lu was involved in the custom-built Chinese version of Windows 10!

As far as going back to Shenzhen – I’d go in a New Yawk minute. Been there three times, loved it every time. And it’s a GREAT place to take kids.
