I use WinXP SP3, IE 8, Outlook 2003, and Home and Student Office 2007 – all installed from Legit. MS CD’s and kept updated. I have Trend Micro Internet Security installed and running and kept up to date. Suddenly a couple of weeks ago, a problem appeared which I had never experienced before.

I found that when I start an email download, and just before the first item starts to download, a Windows Installer window opens up, starting with “Initialising”, and then rambles on through several other messages (including: “Please wait while Windows Configures Microsoft Office Home and Student . . . . . . . .”) and downloading. It eventually closes after a several minutes, and then the email download resumes it’s normal progress without further interruption. There is no visible effect seen, or felt regarding the alleged configuration, and the very next time I start another email download, the identical silly Windows Installer process starts up. After this happened a few times, I found the simple work-around of clicking the Cancel button on the Installer window as soon as it appears, and after a couple of seconds, the window closes and the email download resumes. I don’t remember installing any new software or modifications in the days immediately before the problem raised it’s silly head.

Has anybody else experienced this/similar problem, and is there a fix? Thanks in Anticipation

    ???

This might be cause by something you installed or was installed without you knowing, that starts up when Windows boots.

You might try running msconfig.exe. Look at the Startup tab and google any programs you don’t recognize, many are important, but don’t have names that are easily recognized. If you see any odd ones, uncheck one of them, restart your PC, and see if it solves the problem. If not, go back to msconfig, and uncheck another, and restart again.

You might try removing Office using Revo Uninstaller[/url] to be certain you’ve gotten it all out and then reinstall the program.

Perhaps using the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility would fix this issue.

First try to run a repair on MS Home and Student Office 2007 from the Programs section of the Control Panel.

This is where to find it in W7 and I’m using MSO Pro 2003 so the program description is different.
