Usually I can just run a search and find my answer – not this time!
We have several add-in templates that are all stored in the designated Startup folder for Word. Some of those templates are 3rd party products that have an install and therefore a folder of their own under C:Program Files_____. In that folder is a copy of the template that is also located in the Word startup folder.
Somehow, Word is picking up not only the template in the Startup folder but also the one in the application folder, resulting in a double toolbar. It lists the template twice in the Templates & Add-ins window, one with the path of the startup folder and one with the path of the application folder.
I’ve tried selecting the extra template and removing it from the Templates & Add-ins, but the Remove button is grayed out for some unknown reason.
I’ve tried going to the Application folder and deleting the extra template, but then Word gives the “Searching for template.dot, to find it yourself, browse.” So I browse and give it the correct filepath and it goes right back to “Searching for template.dot…” After cancelling out of that, I go into Templates & Add-ins and it gives the search message again, cancel out again and the template is gone from the dialog box. But every time you open Word, you get the searching message.
Any more ideas?
