Hopefully someone has come across a similar problem … and will know a solution to this bug bear…

In the interests of environmental awareness we are trying to encourage our users to print large documents double sided (we are using Windows 2000 pro, printing to HP 5Si and 8000 networked printers with duplexing units)

When they print large documents with a mixture of portrait and landscape pages – following pages are printed upside down(!) – so the print on a double sided page would not be the same direction – there is one page printed the right way up and on the other side it is upside down.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

    Lor

When printing from a program, click on the Properties button… in this dialog, select the Page Setup tab and select either Short Side or Long Side. Select the Paper tab, click More Options… and select either Flip on long edge or Flip on short edge. Test different settings (i.e., Short Side and Flip on short edge), etc. to see which one will print the document correctly – obviously the default selection does not work.

        Hi

Thanks for getting back to me….but I’ve checked the duplex properties and the page setup and both are fine. I perhaps should have made myself clearer…y’see double sided printing works perfectly well as long as there is no change between portrait and landscape pages. It all prints fine if it is all portrait or all landscape, but after changing between portrait and landscape the double sided flips. I know it would be simple enough to print out the portrait and landscape sections separately…but I need to make it as easy for my users as possible!!

        Thanks again

          Lor, I feel your pain!

I’ve been experiencing *exactly* the same problem.
I thought I was the only one in the world!

I don’t have an answer, of course, but I do feel a bond of humanity now exists between us. kiss

If I ever find the solution I’ll be sure to let you know!

(Edited by Samantha on 22-May-03 09:09. to finish my train of thought (ain’t it awful when work interrupts us?))

Lor, check your specific printer settings for its duplex options. One of our duplex printers (HP 2200) offers a choice between “Flip Pages Up” and “Straight Paper Path,” while the other one (HP 4 Plus) uses a different syntax. In either case, however, the duplex functions are accessed through the “properties” button after choosing the particular printer.

I suspect your users may have to print by sections when trying to duplex print a document with mixed orientations.
