When I constructed this puzzle, I first thought it too easy and I considered making it more cryptic. I was convinced that many would see it very quickly. Still, a clue appears to be in order for those who want one.

        Rob:

        . . . John Selvia . . . Who?

If you do a Google for “John Selvia Fingers” you’ll be enlightened (not that it helped me solve the puzzle)

11001 00101 10011, but I would suggest that the last one on the second row is wrong?

          Hi Rory,

Yoc? Or should it be Yuk? Thanks for spotting the typographical inexactitude. I put it down to incompetence. Anyway, good work in solving the puzzle. Did you need the clue?

Bravo! Was this down to your natural brilliance or did you use the clue?

(Edited by smerdonk on 30-May-03 13:32. Forgot to mention that I hadn’t logged on to the lounge since before the puzzle was posted. Usually, if it takes me more than two days, I give up on trying to solve the puzzle.)

I had’t read any other posts to the thread until after I solved it, so no clues were used.

As a side note, I did hurt my elbow patting myself on the back for solving it so quickly – but no pain no gain!

Nice puzzle. I was sure from the start that it had something to do with binary numbers but still couldn’t quite get it. Then I used every clue in the thread and finally…

Got QT? Is that an illness? I’m glad you enjoyed the puzzle. I’ll leave part two clueless until Monday.

What’s really irritating is that I learned to count in binary on my fingers when I was at school and it is still my preferred method if I need to keep track of incrementing numbers. You can get pretty fast with practice – but I wasn’t fast enough to solve this one.

              Very nice puzzle.

Thanks Stuart. As with all good puzzles you can kick yourself once the answer is revealed. Without seeming too immodest, I’m quite proud of this one
