Have a Compaq with a disc writer.
When ever I put in a CD-RW in, it will NOT eject. Put in a CD-R and everything is oK. The ONLY way I can get it out is to reboot and keep pushing the button until the door opens. The CD-RW works great. I can add, delete and move files all I want too. A CD-RW Just won’t eject.

    Any Ideas….. surrender

Do you have any software like DirectCD running which may have ‘grabbed’ it? Something in the back of my mind tells me some software will not let you eject the CD until it has been formally ‘closed’ – albeit that the software is mistaken.
Otherwise, from Explorer, right_click the drive and select Eject.
As a last resort, poke an opened-up paper clip into the emergency manual-eject hole you should find on the front of the drive.

        Thanks for the reply Leif.
        Yes I use DirectCD.
I have tryied the Explorer, right-click and the Eject method. Does not work.
Plus there is no emergency manual-ejust hole on this CD.
I think perhaps you are right about DirectCD ‘grabbing’ it and wanting it to close. I use the CD for backing up files, and add to it from time to time. I am thinking of just using a CR-R each time and do a complete backup instead!! frown

What version of Direct CD are you using? Also what OS and its version?
Try ‘right clicking’ on the Direct CD icon in the lower right corner of the screen, select “Properties” and go to the “DirectCD Wizard” tab. See if the “Display the ‘Eject Disc..” is selected and also check and see if the “Display Eject Notification” is selected.
