Want to include a Word document inside another Word document WITHOUT loosing/changing any formating and/or layout of both documents… How would I do that…. tried to play with section-breaks but that doesn’t seem to help…

Any suggestions?

A document can only contain one definition of a style, so if document A has Normal = 10 pt Arial, and the other has Normal = 12 pt Times New Roman, there is no way to combine the documents into one document and preserve both definitions. Do you need a document that can be edited? If it’s just for viewing and printing, there are other solutions, such as a PDF file.

You have only two ways to do this within Word itself.
1) You could take the source document & rename all the used styles so that they had different names than the target document. This would be a nightmare to maintain.
2) You could make the style definitions identical, but use direct formatting in the source document. This is also a nightmare.

Have you tried to Copy the first document and Paste Special as a picture into the second document?

Thanks to all for the feedback… here’s some quick replies and new questions…

The document can be PDF but I’d prefer that to be created from the WORD-combination as that might help with the page numbering (which is probably the only part I want to continue regardless of which document I have).

I like the suggestion of the copy-as-picture, that would be great. Here’s my question: the document to be inserted is 30 pages long… even IF I could copy that as picture as a whole, how would I make the pasted picture in the target-document to run over the text-area of 30 pages there???

Unfortunately, a picture can’t be larger than one page; there is no way to make a picture distribute itself over 30 pages. So you would have to do this for each page separately. Not an attractive thought. Why not keep the documents separate and adjust the page numbering in one of them?

Would use of the field code IncludeText solve your problem? It allows you to include either bookmarked portions of text or the entire document. There is the issue of having different Normal styles in the two documents noted in a post above, but if that isn’t a problem, it might do the trick.
