I have a Win 7 SP1 machine. I had Office 10, briefly, didn’t need 99.9% of it and un-installed it. So I reverted to Word 2003 which does everything I need. However, I keep being offered Office updates, the latest is for Office 2007 which I have never had. Do I need to install updates for programs I don’t have???

Do you have the Office Compatibility Pack installed? If so, this would explain why you are also being offered updates for Office 2007.

Thanks for your response. I do seem to remember being sent some documents in .docx format a while ago, and I might have installed it then. How would I find out? Or maybe I don’t need to, just let the update go ahead?

If you can open docs in .docx format using Office 2003 then, yes, you have the compatibility pack installed.

You can always double-check by going Start > Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Programs and Features and looking in the list.

I suggest you let the update go ahead.

      Hope this helps…
