A friend tried to change his display name by going to TOOLS, ACCOUNTS, Properties, and then changing his USER NAME. However his display name remains CHARLES instead of the desired CHUCK?? He is using WIN XP.

What do you mean by ‘display name’? When is it displayed?

When you send an email, the “display”name is listed as who the email is from.

That’s what I thought you probably meant, and it’s nothing to do with the account or user name. To change it, go to Tools, Options, Send and change the send name.

Having said that, I don’t have OE here at work so it might not be exactly as I said above, but it will be something similar nearby.

OK, I apologise, my memory was a bit faulty there. As I said, I didn’t have OE at work and I’ve now checked it at home.

Let’s try again. Your friend changed the name under Tools, Accounts, select correct account, properties, but did he change the account name or the user name? The account name is only used to refer to the account for your friend; the user name is the one that appears as the send name.

He changed the user name, not the account name. But it does not seem to be “taking”. I know we are doing everything according to the book but wondered if there was a known bug or something?

Not that I know of or have come across.

              Sorry! bummer

Have you tried looking at Tomsterdam? It seems to be the best place to look for answers to OE problems …
