Hi there, I hope I explain this well enough, so please bear with me.

Just moved up to Win2K. I have a 10GB HD on my new PC and I’d like to add my old 3.2GB HD to it as a second drive. What I would like to do is this: I’d like to partition my 10GB drive so that I have about 3GB for all my data and I’d like to use my old 3.2GB HD as a mirror for backup purposes. I was told that Win2K has this capability, but that I may have to jump through some hoops in order to do so. Does anyone have any experience with this? Thanks for all your help.

I think that Win2k workstation doesnt support mirroring, you need to have the server version.

Doug is correct – mirrored volumes can only be done on the server version. I would also suggest that you might also notice a distinct slowdown in performance unless you were running scsi hd’s had it been available.

I would suggest either setting up a batch file to do a straight copy of your data files once every x hours, or use some backup software to make copies to your ‘spare’ hd, effectively acting as a mirror.

Doug is correct, the server version is needed for mirroring (having just moved to WIn 2000, I checked it out). A good, free command line based file copy utility is XXCopy (http://www.xxcopy.com), it works within Windows and can do incremental backups. Its worth a look.
