Hello Woody, I have your Windows 7 Dummies book(8 books in 1). When I try to burn a CD with one of my files from My Documents
, nothing happens? No “prompt” comes up when I insert the disc in D drive? I can’t find anything under the “HELP” function either. Can you solve this problem? Thanks, Jerry

AskWoody LoungerNovember 19, 2012 at 11:34 am #1357887This is a download that I have on my Desktop. It is a a JPG file…also located in My Documents. My question is why the “prompt” doesn’t appear when I insert a CD-R disc? Woody’s “Dummies” book on Windows 7 explains the steps needed when the “prompt” is on the desktop. I would like to use the Windows 7 option that is available on my Windows 7 Home Premium. This whole procedure shouldn’t be difficult. I am sure there is a clear explanation. Thanks for your help. Jerry

A JPG file is a compressed photo file and, as such, can’t be “burned“ to a disc like an ISO file; it can, however, be copied to a CD or DVD; is that what you’re trying to do?? You still haven’t told us what software you’re trying to use – ??Windows Media Player?? ??Have you tried right-clicking on the Drive Icon in Windows Explorer??
Confusedly,
Zig -

AskWoody LoungerNovember 20, 2012 at 12:51 pm #1358039That is interesting about the JPG file. As far as the software is concerned, I am merely going by what Woody tells you to use in his Dummies book. He writes if you are burning a file to a disc you should use Windows 7 not Windows Media Player(he explains Windows Media Player is for music or songs). No prompt appears when I place a disk in the drive as Woody tells you should appear. I must be doing something wrong if what I am writing confuses you. I recently bought a new computer with Windows 7, my old one had XP Pro and I never had a problem copying, burning, or playing any disk. I did right-click on the D drive under “Computer” and no “burn” indication comes up on the menu….Jerry

AskWoody LoungerNovember 22, 2012 at 11:53 pm #1358606Another approach is to right-click the filename in Explorer, select Send To, and click on the appropriate CD drive letter. On my computer, this causes the tray to emerge, ready to accept a disk. Close the drive, and the copying process should continue, asking what type of disk you want to make.

Or try using the excellent free program CDBurnerXP Pro from http://www.cdburnerxp.se/, which is very easy to use.
