    My HP laptop running M$ Vista the sound disappears with no yellow disk in device manager or hardware problem.
    If I run system restore the sound comes back with a warning “System restore encountered an unknown problem no system files were changed. However, the sound comes back ok.
    This has happened twice. WHY?

      Since it’s a laptop, I assume you have onboard sound. I would go to HP’s web site and see if there is a newer driver for your sound device.
