• Disappearing Slide Annotation (2003)

    G’Day y’all,

I am training an entire office (>250 staff members) on the new features they’ll find as they upgrade from Office 2000 to Office 2003! PPT 2003 slide annotations is one of those new features.

My problem: On a laptop connected to an HP projector, in Viewing Slide Show, slide annotation is available initally after computer boot-up and PPT 2003 launching. CTRL+P, selecting the Pen tool in the lower-left-hand corner of the slide, and right-click pen options all behave properly.
BUT, without warning, the feature no longer works, no matter what I do.
When I bring it back to IT for help, when our TECH logs on with an ADMIN log-in, the feature works in that profile. When I log back on, after reboot, the feature returns! It’s a mystery.

Configurations: IBMThinkPad Type 2373, Windows XP Professional, Microsoft Office 2003 Professional SP2, an USB “mini-mouse.” Novell network.

Has anyone seen this behavior on a ThinkPad? What am I doing wrong?

Any insight would be most helpful, as the feature is unreliable on this laptop!

    Thanks so much,
    Rich

I don’t have an explanation or a solution for your problem, but the pen tool is not new in PowerPoint 2003. It has been available at least since PowerPoint 97, so perhaps you don’t need to demonstrate it. grin

        Dear Hans,

Yes, I realize that annotation feature has been around forever.

What’s new to these folks is that you can choose to keep or discard your annotations. That’s what I wanted to demonstrate!

        Thanks so much,
        Rich

      Rich,

The title of this page ‘Pen doesn’t work during slide show in PowerPoint 2003’ appears to fit
      http://www.pptfaq.com/FAQ00669.htm%5B/url%5D

but on reading the solution – I don’t think that will apply to you (unless that feature is has not been installed for your username).

      Cheers
