Disappearing Sheet Tabs (97sr2 and 2000)

Has anyone encountered sheet tabs (97 onwards) disappearing even if the option to see them is enabled?

I created a multisheet workbook in Excel97 and this has been operated sucessfully on my win95b and a win98 system (also Excel97sr2). The user of the win98 system has passed the workbook onto somone using Windows 2000 and Excel 2000 and it is this person who cried for help. After suggesting the Tool>options sheet tabs box, i visited them onsite. They loaded the workbook and hey presto they had re-appeared!! I have no reason to doubt them on what happened, the incident occured over several days and a copy was loaded onto the win98 system with no problems. While the workbook contains VBA code none of it changes the display options.
Are there any workarounds? Can you navigate without them?

Hello pieterse,
To my knowledge the user was stuck with looking at one sheet. The behaviour was as if someone had disabled sheet tabs from Tools>Options. Luckily it was a data entry sheet that was active, they just couldn’t click a tab to jump to a summary sheet.

It could be that the sheet tabs are obscured by the horizontal scrollbar. See if you can click on the leftmost part of the scrollbar and drag it to the right and hopefully it will reveal your sheet tabs.

or go Tools, Options, View and uncheck Horizontal Scrollbar.

I can’t replicate the error, but good idea. I’ll alert the user to try it if it occurs again
