I’m running Outlook in CW mode but stand-alone (no Exchange) and using MS Fax service (this has worked fine for a couple years). I had a rule set up to notify me when a fax had come in, and move that fax message to a Faxes folder (again, no problems).

I modified the rule to forward faxes to myself via email so I’d see them when I was out of town checking email on a different machine (laptop). When I got back, the Faxes folder on the desktop was missing. The strange thing is that it seems faxes are still being moved somewhere, because now they’re not in the Inbox. In the rule, the destination folder to move the message to shows “specified folder” (which is expected if the folder was moved or deleted).

Has anyone ever seen an entire folder disappear like this? Is there any utility to help find it? (Inbox Repair Tool didn’t help.) I’ve got backups, but the faxes from the week this happened are not there, plus it’s still a problem when faxes come in (even though I’ve stopped using the rule).

    Any ideas? Thanks.

were you using a separate pst for faxes or only a separate folder? i’ve seen this happen if you were using a pst and disconnected the pst (file > close) reconnect the pst and you’ll have all your faxes…

        Mary,

Just a separate folder in the main pst (mailbox.pst on this machine).

weird – and you didn’t delete the folder?

search your drive for *.pst and see if you have any others –
