As a result of an e-mail prompt from PC Tools, I renewed my subscription for Registry Mechanic. Fairly harmless except that the subscription conditions are:-

The duration of the subscription is initially limited to one year, and will be repeatedly extended for an additional year, with the same price as the first year, if you do not terminate it. You can terminate the subscription by sending our customer service an e-mail containing the element 5 order number.

Having been caught with direct debit in the past I consider this an invasion, there was not an option not to accept the conditions. You had to renew then terminate. Not ON

In the UK (at least!) you can ask your bank to refuse to pay a direct debit – before the event, of course…

Hi John,
Unfortunately in the land down under the banks are of the opinion that you have a contract with the vendor. I have been caught twice, the worst was when I subscribed to a local PC User group. There was to be a monthly magazine, I received photocopies of his child’s school finger paintings.

Two lessons it took over two years to recover the money.
I don’t bank with that institution.

The grand finale was the character used my credit card details to subscribe ME (yes correct address all in order) to an overseas subscription service.

Registry Mechanic may be good software but I decline at this price.
