Hi. This notebook computer doesn’t have a USB port. Can I still use a modern digital cam with this machine? Is there a PCMCIA card that makes a USB connector? Russ

1] Using a digital camera will depend on the connections and software supplied with the camera, and possibly your OS.

2] Yes – an example = USB Ports – you may need to check with the manufacturer of your laptop whether it will work.

Thanks for that. Looks like that’s what I’ll have to do.

Sony makes a Mavica Digital camera which saves JPG photos to Cd or to floppy disks. The floppies can have a memory stick up to 68MB.
Both the floppies and disks can be put directly into your computer just as a CD ROM or a floppy disk.
      No USB needed.

Some digital cameras (mine is a Kodak DC215) have a serial rather than a USB port, so that is an option. My camera came with a separate gizmo for reading memory cards than plugs into a USB port, so I can either connect my camera directly to the serial port or stick the memory card into the card reader and use the USB port.

Thanks for your help on this one.

Just a note to say I’ve found a good answer to this problem. Now I have the Canon A-10 digital camera, that uses Compact Flash memory cards. A $15 converter for these cards allows them to be used in the PCMCIA port of my laptop. Problem solved! This little camera seems to be very good, and great value for $160. And a 64meg CF card is only $30, which will hold more than 100 photos of good resolution. Happy clicking!
