Hi….when I try to open a blank WORD doc I get these two messages consecutively, not until I delete them both does the blank doc finally open though it takes forever. Must say they appear despite there being no docs showing on the task bar. What causes these two warning messages to appear and how do I stop them please? I still have the persistent problem with Word taking ages to open so am mostly using OpenOffice [as inferred in a recent post] though I prefer WORD as such keyboard shortcuts as using the Ctrl + [ & ] keys to change highlighted text size is not available in OpenOffice as far as I know. Thanks Dave.

It looks like there is a problem with a Word add-on that you have installed.

Try following the instructions in Systematic Approach to behavioral Problems in Word.

It looks like there is a problem with a Word add-on that you have installed.

Try following the instructions in Systematic Approach to behavioral Problems in Word.

If I may pick up this thread again to explain how the problem was eventually solved. The following instructions came by way of email from a friend with whom I had shared the problem. I tried all the foregoing steps to no avail but when I ventured to follow the last option, it worked just great. Despite following the first option to the letter three times, I could not locate Officeav.dll file. For the benefit of anyone who may encounter this fault this is what he wrote, the last option
[in bold text] being the one that solved the problem: –

        [Email]
With regard to the first window message: – this problem may occur if the Officeav.dll file is corrupted or outdated. The Officeav.dll file is the Norton AntiVirus Office plug-in. To resolve this problem try by renaming the Officeav.dll file. To do this, follow these steps:
Note Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps.
Click Start, click Search, and then click All files and folders.
In the All or part of the file name box, type officeav.dll.
In the Look in box, click Local Hard Drives.
Click Search. When the search result is displayed in the right pane, note the path of the Officeav.dll file.
Locate the Officeav.dll file, right-click officeav.dll, and then click Rename.
Type officeav.old, and then press ENTER.
        Restart your computer.
Renaming the file will not normally cause a problem. A ‘new’ file will generally be created with the same name.

With regard to the second box message hope following helps: To determine the name and location of the add-in file that contains the expired certificate, follow these steps:
On the Tools menu in Word, point to Macros, and then click Security.
Select the Medium security setting, and then click OK.
Quit Word. Quit Outlook if you are using Word as the e-mail editor.
        Restart Word.
When the Macro Security dialog box appears, the first three lines will display the location, file name, and software vendor for the file that contains the expired certificate. For additional information about the expired certificate, click Details.
        Click Disable Macros.
To restore the High macro security setting, follow these steps:
On the Tools menu, point to Macros, and then click Security.
Select the High security setting, and then click OK.
After you determine the source of the expired certificate, you may decide to trust this software vendor. If that is the case, use one of the two following methods to continue using the add-in file and to prevent the “expired or revoked signature” message from appearing when you start Word.

NOTE: Macros may contain viruses. If you do not recognize the software vendor on the certificate, delete the add-in file to prevent the “expired or revoked signature” message from appearing. For help with deleting the file, click Help on the Start menu in Microsoft Windows, and search for the “deleting files” topic.
Method 1: Change the Startup Path in Word to the Folder That Contains the Add-in
Use the following steps to change the startup path in Word to the folder that contains the add-in file:
On the Tools menu in Word, click Options.
        Select the File Locations tab.
In the File types list, select Startup, and then click Modify.
In the Modify Location dialog box, select the folder that contains the add-in file with the expired certificate, and then click OK.
In the Options dialog box, click OK.
On the Tools menu, point to Macros, and then click Security.
Select the Trusted Sources tab, and verify that the Trust all installed add-ins and templates check box is selected.
Click OK and then restart Word to verify that the “expired or revoked signature” message does not appear.

Method 2: Move the Add-in File into the Word Startup Path
The following are the default locations for the Word startup path:
Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me):
        C:WINDOWSApplication DataMicrosoftWordSTARTUP
Microsoft Windows 95, Microsoft Windows 98, or Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition (Me) with user profiles:
        C:WINDOWSProfilesuser nameApplication DataMicrosoftWordSTARTUP
        Microsoft Windows NT 4.0:
        C:WINNTProfilesuser nameApplication DataMicrosoftWordSTARTUP

        Code:
Microsoft Windows 2000 or Microsoft Windows XP:
        C:Documents and Settingsuser nameApplication DataMicrosoftWordSTARTUP

[b]If you want to be sure of the Word STARTUP path before you move the add-in file, verify the path by following these steps:
        (1) On the Tools menu in Word, click Options.
        (2) Select the File Locations tab.
        (3) In the File types list, select Startup, and then click Modify.
        (4) In the Modify Location dialog box, click the DOWN arrow in the Look in box to see the complete location of the folder.
        (5) Click Cancel in the Modify Location dialog box.
        (6) Click Close in the Options dialog box.
After you know the file name and location of the add-in file, as well as the Word startup path, move the add-in file from its current location to the folder specified in the Word startup path.
For help with moving the file, click Help on the Start menu in Windows, and search for the "moving files" topic.

        [/b]

        Hope this helps.
        Regards
        Peter
