I recently changed password/tel number of my Microsoft account that I never use having the same local account as long as I remember. It used to be you could use on or the other account and your desktop remained the same.

Not so now. I have a desktop with half my stuff missing(shortcuts to apps), I needed to do the “Windows Hello” thing that I couldn’t avoid and I have my sign-in choices appear on the screen. It took me years to get my desktop the way I wanted and now I have a massive pile of doo.

Did I do something wrong to end up with such a result? Perhaps I shouldn’t worry about it because I don’t ever use the account, but I want to make some hardware changes that will necessitate signing in to M$oft acoount. I just wasn’t prepared for what I was looking at. Any way to fix this easily? TIA

Are you saying that your local account had had its desktop changed? Or is it that the MS account isn’t the same as your local account? As far as I’m aware, they are two different accounts, changes made in one should’t appear in the other. I’ve always had a MS account – and I’ve got three PCs (two desktops and one laptop) with that same account and they each have different layouts. It’s not a problem for me as they are all used for different things. Again, as far as I’m aware if you had two local accounts, they would be separate ones with different setups.

It was my M$oft account desktop that was a mess. I understand it is two different accounts, but I don’t recall the desktop changing its appearance in the past. You used to be able to just sign-in with either your local or Microsoft account and the both were the same.

The old behavior must have changed sometime ago because I don’t recall signing in with different account and the desktop being different. That goes to show you how often I connect with the company that watches over me. 😉

This seems to be a duplicate of your May post. Is it?

      cheers, Paul

Not quite because I never did sign-in to Microsoft account until yesterday and didn’t realize what my desktop would look like.

If it is considered a duplicate post, I apologize for breaking the rules.
