Word 2003. Created numbered captions with the Captions tool, but a co-worker edited the file and apparently screwed it up by doing ???. Now the list of cross-references shows Tables 1-11, an un-numbered caption, Tables 13-15, an un-numbered caption, Tables 17-18. In other words, there are two entries in the list of tables in the Cross-Reference dialog which are un-numbered, but appear in the list non-the-less.
However, there are no such tables in the document. Tables 12 and 16 do not exist (which is correct). The “real” tables are numbered as if they *do* exist. In other words, if I select all the text in the document and Update Fields, the tables are numbered …10,11,13,14,15,17,18
How can I delete the phantom tables from the Cross-Reference list so that the existing tables are numbered correctly?
