• Delete LibreOffice "old" folders?

I’ve been faithfully installing each and every LibreOffice update release since 2014. I switched from the 32-bit version to 64-bit in 2018.
It was a surprise when I discovered a lot of “program_oldx” folders (no idea why I didn’t see that sooner). The obsolete-seeming folders take 250 MB space.

Because of the “old” part in these foldernames, that might mean they can safely be deleted.
    But I’m not sure.
Can someone advise me whether to delete or to keep these folders?

Good software programs will backup files it used when you upgrade the program and it changes how new files are saved. It may replicate those files to conform the the new and improved system and save the old files “just in case.” Typically those files are old versions of the newly created files.

To be sure I would check to see if the files are in fact duplicates. There are lots of free programs to check this. If you have CCleaner installed on your computer it has a provision to compare files.

My LibreOffice has only one “program” directory, despite numerous upgrades.
      Backup and delete.

      Thanks, guys, for your suggestions.

      1.  CCleaner found no duplicates. But maybe that function didn’t work because my license expired. That doesn’t matter much though. I proceeded in a different way.
      2.  In the LibreOffice folder I added a new folder “old_folders_from_main_folder” and moved all  “program_oldx” folders in there. I assume that LibreOffice won’t find its “program_oldx” folders any more.
      3. If nothing untoward happens in the next two weeks, I’ll move “old_folders_from_main_folder” to a different partition. If again nothing untoward happens, I’ll have proof the “program_oldx” folders can be safely deleted.
      4.  Worst case scenario: I might have to re-install LibreOffice altogether, but I doubt that.
