I have an old USB card reader (ZIO) that I no longer use, but it still appears in My Computer as an assigned drive. How do I get rid of it, and any other temporary drive letters that may be assigned (ie. New Lexar card reader, USB flash driver, neither of which stays connected on a permanent basis)?

    Thanks!

You need to go to the device manager, find the device and remove it.

As for the new ones they should disappear, unless you are just pulling the out of the USB slot. Most should be turned off by using the “Safe Removal” tool that is shown in the SysTray area.

First place I went, but I don’t find it listed. It isn’t under drives or USB controllers.

Dave: It has a CD drive Icon………….I think I may just need to change the label of the drive to reflect the TDK External DVD burner that is connected via firewire. It IS in the device manager, but is not reflected in ‘My Computer’. How do I change the label of the drive?
