Defragmenter won’t initialise

I attempted to start the W2000 Pro defragmenter on a friend’s fairly standard Compaq desktop PC and got a message (which I didn’t write down) saying it wouldn’t initialise. Error checking found no errors on the hard disk.

One possibility is that I was not logged on as an administrator, but Microsoft KB 231176 shows that the error message is quite specific in this case.

Sorry to be a bit vague! Any ideas?

Go to start button | run and type regsvr32 C:WINNTsystem32dfrgsnap.dll
