• Defined names – setting

    Hi,

Got a user that has a huge number of “defined names” that she isn’t aware of having created. 4,700 in all!!

She’s asking for a way to avoid this creation of names in the future. I believe that I way back have seen a comment on a setting that could be set, so that auto-creation of defined names are prevented.

Can anyone confirm the existence of the setting – and in case, would you also know where I can find it??

    TIA

I’m not aware of a setting that automatically creates defined names…

        Hi hans,

I was more thinking it the other way around – a setting that could turn off the auto creation of defined names.

I think the point is that there is no auto creation of named ranges (hence the lack of setting). (other than built-in ones like querytable ranges, print areas etc.)

Maybe I’m confusing this with auto creation of styles in Excel as well…??
        – is there a setting that turns this off?

I’m not aware of a setting that would cause Excel to automatically create styles, so I don’t think you can turn this on or off either.

The only way to have styles added to your workbook is by copying cells and/or sheets from another workbook, which have a style that differs from (or is absent from) the workbook you paste them into. There is no way to prevent that, other than by pasting values and NOT formats.

No, not that I know of, if you are talking about number formats?

        hmmmmm
        – thanks for the quick answers. Guess I’ll have to sleep on that one then.
