    Hello y’all,

At Tools | Options | File Locations you can set the location for Tools:

Anybody have any idea what that means, and if a user changes that setting from the original install setting, what’s the potential impact to the user and/or system administrator in the case of a networked PC???

    Thanks so much,
    G’Day,
    Rich

It has something to do with the proofing tools, but I don’t know what exactly. I have never seen a good reason to change it.

        Hi Hans,

Yes, I had that same feeling. Thanks.

It sort of is the same thing with “Startup.” Do you know what that does for you?

        G’Day,
        Rich

Now that *is* a useful location. Any template placed in Word’s startup location will be opened automatically each time you start Word.

Its purpose is to store global templates (aka add-ins). A template in the startup folder will be loaded invisibly, and its toolbars and macros will be available in every document.
