All of a sudden when I attempt to access the net I get the following annoying message, is there some way I can stop this from appearing? Oops; the second screen shot appears if I click the text in blue. Thanks Dave.

Did you install a new toolbar in Firefox?

I found several recommendations to do the following:
      – Quit Firefox.
      – Delete the folder C:Program FilesFirefoxextensionssearch@searchsettings.com

I don’t know how effective that would be.

I don’t know how old those references were, but on my system the Fx folder in Program Files is: C:Program FilesMozilla Firefoxextensions

And there’s no such file, but that may be because I’ve never messed with or altered search settings.

Thanks, that’s the one on my PC too (and I don’t have search@searchsettings.com either)

Hello again…… just had a look at the list of plug ins for Firefox and noticed there is one I must have accepted quite recently which has the definition “Search settings” in the title so I have disabled it to see if the annoying message still appears when I log on to the net. Seeing I must rise at 04.30 hours in the morning en-route for Austria my surfing tonight will soon end but if
an answer can be forthcoming withing the next hour or so I will catch it but if not – as I mentioned in my last post- I will not be able to respond before 6th Sep. Cheers Dave.

It could have come with some other software – unfortunately, many providers of “free” software nowadays include other software in their downloads, and you have to take action to avoid that other software from being installed automatically. I found one reference that the Search Settings Plugin comes with PDFCreator.

As ever thanks Hans… must retire now…..will take up the baton later. Regards Dave.

As Hans says, it sounds like something is trying to change your default search settings from what you have selected to something new that you installed or installed itself along with another program that you wanted to install. What’s new on your system ??
