The MS default font for composing messages is apparently Calibri 11, which has always appeared automatically in the Font box when opening New Mail .  I wanted to change the default font to Times New Roman 12 which I prefer.  I followed the instructions to change the default font- open Outlook>File>Options>Mail>Stationery and Fonts and changed the font to Times New Roman 12. Now when I open New Mail the font box is “grayed out” and only appears when the cursor is moved to the body of the message.  I found this a bit strange and did a remote session with MS Support and their answer was “That’s just the way it is” and did not buy into my assertion that was not the case with the MS default font.  I can live with the change but am curious as to why this is the case.  If anyone can shed any light on this situation, I would like to hear it.  Any responses appreciated!

I think it did that before you made the change too. (It does for me with the default font, Calibri 11.)

Why would you want to specify the font in anything other than the body text?

(I don’t think any email program ever does that, as it would no doubt interfere with the operational To/CC/BCC/From fields to have extra unnecessary code inserted into headers.)
