    Every time I start or restart the computer, it changes my default browser to Microsoft Edge when my chosen default is Chrome. This started happening after I downloaded SCleaner and ran it. This may be only correlation not causation, but this is only happening on one computer out of the four that I own. How do I make my default browser stick?

      It might be a Windows 11 fluke, perfect it isn’t.

      Assuming you have SCleaner on all machines still, you can open it and it should show the Options used last time (at least, it does that for me!), compare them with the ‘buggy’ W11 PC to check any differences.

      @lwgreen

      In the event that your statement quoted above is true, try the solution to this problem posted by @n0ads over here on AskWoody. The problem in that thread is nearly identical to yours, so @n0ads ‘ solution may very well help you if @satrow ‘s solution above didn’t.

      If @satrow ‘s solution did help, then feel free to completely disregard this post.  🙂

        Thanks for  trying to help, but I’m sorry to say that did not work. I applied the changes and restarted the computer and the default went back to Edge. Also it made Edge default for pdf files. Thanks again.

          If neither solution worked, then perhaps you’re being affected by a very behind-the-scenes change made by SCleaner. Also, keep in mind the following in @satrow ‘s post:

          SCleaner on all machines still, you can open it and it should show the Options used last time…compare them with the ‘buggy’ W11 PC to check any differences.

          In other words, check the SCleaner setup options on the machine having problems with the SCleaner settings on a machine that’s not having problems and see if there are any differences (if you haven’t already).

      SCleaner is installed on one computer only. I usually install new software on one to test before installing on the other three. Now I won’t do that until I find out what caused the problem. It may not have been SCleaner. Thanks for your help.

      It may not have been SCleaner

      I tested SCleaner once. My default browser ,Chrome, hasn’t changed to Edge.

      I use the free portable ccPortable.

        After trying all the solutions I found on the internet without luck, I decided it couldn’t hurt to upgrade the computer to 24H2, and it did fix the problem of the browser defaulting to Edge on start up or reboot. I don’t know what it did to fix it, but it’s done and I’m thankful. And thanks to all here who tried to help. I appreciate it very much.
