This was sort of addressed in a post in July, but I don’t relish the thought of having to reset all of my default apps to those of my choosing (the ultimate solution there). Here’s the issue:
Try as I might, I can’t get my clients to send PDF files instead of pictures from their phones. Microsoft wants to open JPG files with TWINUI (which has never worked on any version of Windows I’ve ever had) but when I go to the Settings screen for Default Apps and try to change the default to LibreOffice Draw the little wheel spins briefly and then I’m thrown out of the the Settings window. This happens at both the first level and the Set Defaults by Extension level.
I am able to open the images in my email program (where I receive most of them), but it’s within the email client and not using a useful program. If I take the time to save the file and then use Open With it works fine. Double-clicking on the file, though, results in a registry error (“Invalid value for registry”). Not sure if I should care about fixing that, since it’s trying to use a program I don’t want, anyway.
This apparently was a (finally) acknowledged issue in the 2018 updates, but I’m on 1903 and still experiencing it. The article on that one led to another, which led to another, which led to another, where I saw the suggestion to click on Reset and then redo all of my settings. Since I don’t have a single Microsoft program on my computer that’s a lot of work!
Any suggestions?
