I have been hearing a lot about the Deeper Connect Nano – a “decentralized VPN and firewall solution.”

But it seems all the articles have the same information as the ads, with no reviews or tests:

    https://www.geeky-gadgets.com/deeper-connect-nano-decentralized-vpn-cybersecurity-hardware-save-33-03-03-2021/

Even sites that often review hardware have the same basic info:
    https://www.pcworld.com/article/3609856/this-299-hardware-vpn-and-firewall-is-just-199-99-right-now.html
    https://www.zdnet.com/article/protect-your-online-data-with-this-decentralized-vpn-and-firewall-portable-solution/

As of today, there are only 11 reviews at Amazon, and fewer than 50% give it five stars.

Does anybody know if this device is a good value and is it possible that it would continue to work even as technology changes?

This is clearly a PR campaign, so I would avoid this box for at least a year, if not more until some real people can kick the tires. For example, the PC World article has no author. Its from the Deal Post Team.

Also, I am reasonably familiar with VPNs and I have not heard of a decentralized VPN. Maybe Tinc.

Sounds like TOR, but not free or open.

What has 5 stars on Amazon got to do with real world use? I expect any 5 star review to be paid advertising.

Well, not all. I have made some 5-star reviews there, not selling anything other than my enthusiasm for the items in question, mostly books and movie DVDs.

But when looking for information on something unfamiliar to me, I always make a point of looking first at the one- and two-star reviews before bothering to look at the comments with more stars and, if doing so, progressing further to those with three-stars and then, maybe, with four and then, perhaps, with five.

So in cases as this one, I would see enough unfavorable comments there to give it a wide berth.

I’m using the Deeper Network “Nano” (Silver) and can honestly say, it works as claimed.   I’m an American expat and travel often.   I was used to using VPN’s (Nord, Express, and BitDefender) to get into certain websites (banking, utilities, shopping) and many are blocked, depending on what country you’re in.    After installing the Nano, 99% of the sites are working without a VPN now.    I’m also running dual RaspberryPi (PiHole) DNS/Ad filters, and with the Nano connected in the mix….. I literally have ZERO ads popping up.     It’s not cheap (as compared to a standard VPN), but you can find them for $280-$290 online (I got mine from StackSocial with a 15% off coupon).

Mine does not work…it did for a month, then quit.  Freaking junk……back in it’s box and been there a year.

Same thing with me – worked for a month or so then stopped.  Maybe it’s something that was done by my ISP provider? Same at work – could not get out into the Internet with it.

Nano is a VPN so how can you claim sites work without one?

No, some anonymous other Deeper Connect device. Also would it help if I told you this uses the Polkadot blockchain to send data? No? Heh…
