WOW! Microsoft must have had their focus somewhere else this month!

It may be the time to understand that Office has reached such a level of perfection that it does not require any more updating. 🙂

How are we standing with the november Windows 7 and Office 2010 updates? Are they it safe to instsall? DEFCON is still at 2.

The DEFCON rating applies to ALL versions of Windows. We saw one Cumulative Update pulled by Microsoft in the last day for one version, and BSODs caused by the CU for another version.

So, yes, we’re still at DEFCON-2, which means WAIT.

How would you categorize the November updates for versions 1803 and below? My company has a mix where half the systems have the September patches and the other half the ones from May. I’d like to patch everything to the same version before year-end if this batch is clean for non-1809 installs.

There is information on Windows patches for each month in the monthly DEFCON blog posts (along with the DEFCON rating for each of the months) and associated ComputerWorld articles for all patches through October 2018.

The current DEFCON2 rating applies to ALL versions of Windows for November 2018 updates only. The DEFCON rating for the November patches should change shortly. When Woody changes the DEFCON rating for November 2018 patches, he will publish instructions for safe patching in the linked ComputerWorld article.

Woody’s DEFCON system is for advice. No one is forced to follow the guidelines. It just makes sense not to jump in and be a Beta Tester/Guinea Pig.

I have Office 2010. Until December 3rd all the security updates were shown in WU. Yesterday, December 4th, before these non-security updates were released (7 PM Dutch time), no more Office 2010 updates were shown. This morning, December 5th, I see only the non-security update KB4461579 and not KB4227172 and no security updates. The Windows 7 monthly rollup, .NET rollup and Malicious Software Removal Tool have always been shown, they never disappeared.

I expected the Office 2010 security updates to return today. I am not worried about the missing KB4227172, but I do think it is strange this one does not appear also. Referring to the KB4227172 article, it says that it is a bug fix for KB3213636 and KB4022198. Both are present on my system.

Does anybody have an idea know why the Office 2010 security updates are not shown?
