Yes
I was just drawing attention to the possibility people might not have made the connection that this is useful for phones too.

AskWoody_MVPMay 14, 2019 at 10:40 pm #1625067The problem with cell phone SD Cards is that the app data are always in a proprietary format, often without any readable file system to speak of. Sure, you could make an image of such a card. But it would be of little use in restoring the device if anything goes wrong. Photos on the other hand can usually be pulled off a phone’s SD Card and backed up in the usual ways.

AskWoody LoungerMay 15, 2019 at 1:50 am #1625758Well that depends.
On probably *most* of these there is a filesystem, the problem is finding the right tools to read that… most of the time there’s a way to read it in Linux or some BSD-derivative, but doesn’t happen automatically and you may need encryption keys too, in addition to specific or custom reader application.
I mean, evidence points to it having been encrypted ODS-2 (you know, the thing from DEC VAX) on at least one weird device…

AskWoody LoungerMay 13, 2019 at 11:57 pm #1614420I just use the same software to back up my flash drives which I use to image my SSDs and hard drives. For instance, I have a copy of each installation flash drive I’ve made for most versions of Windows 10 over the last few years.
The images of my flash drive(s) are stored on a hard drive in my hard drive dock for safe keeping. I have redundant drives which I can slip into, and out of, my dock as well.Image or Clone often! Backup, backup, backup, backup......
